De affiches werden jarenlang in </ins>het <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">depot opgeborgen op speciale afficherekken. De affiches werden aan twee metalen stangen opgehangen met behulp </ins>van <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">kartonnen strookjes met twee gaten, bovenaan aan de affiche bevestigd. Aangezien </ins>de affiches in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">liggende berging bewaard zullen worden moeten deze kartonnen strookjes afgesneden worden: een eerste taak waar vrijwilligers voor werden ingezet. Na </ins>het <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">afsnijden worden de affiches gesorteerd per doosformaat waarin ze zullen worden herverpakt. Op dit punt worden </ins>niet enkel <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">foute registraties </ins>en <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">beschrijvingen verbeterd, we voeren ook een selectie door</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eventuele dubbels </ins>van affiches <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">worden opgespoord, waarna de affiche die in de beste conditie verkeerd bijgehouden. Na decennialange bewaring in een op maat ingericht depot is het in september 2023 tijd voor een intens conservatieproject. Alle affiches worden gereinigd en herverpakt, waarna ze verhuizen naar een extern depot. Een gigantische opdracht, die het Letterenhuis mede dankzij de inzet van vrijwilligers tot een goed einde wil brengen.<br /> <br /> =Probleemstelling=<br /> Een unieke collectie <br /> De collectie startte bij onze oprichting in 1933 als ‘aanplakbiljetten over tentoonstellingen, voordrachten, feestvieringen’. Dat evolueerde en al snel kwamen er drie categorieën: ‘affiches met politieke inslag’, ‘affiches met culturele inslag (concerten, congressen, literatuur, tentoonstellingen)’ en ‘schouwburg-aanplakbrieven’. De insteek was documentair: de affiches waren steeds verbonden aan de overige archieven en collecties, om zo objectief mogelijk het culturele en literaire leven in Vlaanderen te documenteren. <br /> <br /> In grote mate weerspiegelt dit nog steeds het karakter van de collectie affiches in het Letterenhuis, maar niet helemaal. Zo verwerven we enkel nog actief op de twee laatstgenoemde categorieën: culturele en theateraffiches. Daarnaast is steeds meer aandacht gegaan naar het verzamelen van affiches vanuit kunsthistorisch perspectief, met aandacht voor kunstenaars en vormgevers. Door een aantal bijzondere schenkingen is de collectie daarnaast ook Belgischer en internationaler geworden.</div>
