There are a few exceptions. Employers are required to keep the staff register, special staff register, individual account and any supporting documents for five years. Expense claims must be kept for 10 years, like other accounting documents. Monthly payslips and tax forms must also be kept for 10 years; employees must keep their own copies for the same period. It’s best to keep annual salary statements until the employee retires. If you don’t know when that will be, keep them for 50 years. You can find an overview of retention periods for staff documents on the Attentia social secretariat website.
